Alternative Straw Utilization

Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives

This program is intended to provide information for the supply of straw for alternate uses, thereby resulting in the reduction or elimination of the need to burn straw on fields. In this manner the initiative also provides additional income opportunities for producers and creates opportunities in the manufacturing sector.

Eligibility Criteria

All producers, local economic development authorities, straw processors and potential investors are invited to inquire.

Summary

NON-FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The department will provide in-kind assistance for establishing research and pilot projects to identify and develop commercial technologies for the production of straw-based products. Assistance is provided in identifying sources of financial support for research or pilot phase projects. It also provides information, both general and technical, through literature, media releases, and producer and industry meetings on opportunities and on the status of various initiatives to manufacture straw-based products.
