Importers, exporters and producers.

Summary

The Customs Tariff establishes the requirement for certain imported goods (68 classes of goods) to indicate their country of origin upon importation into Canada.

The Determination of Country of Origin for the Purposes of Marking Goods (NAFTA countries) Regulations list the classes of goods that are required to be marked, the exemptions to marking and set out the rules that are to be used in determining the country of origin of the goods in accordance with Annex 311 of the NAFTA.

These Regulations are also used for ascertaining which of the NAFTA tariff treatments will apply to NAFTA originating agri-food and textile and apparel products.

Chapter 5 of the NAFTA provides for advance rulings and appeals, marking determinations and appeals and trilateral exchange of information pertaining to marking.
