Summary

The Customs Tariff Act ("Act") establishes thirteen separate tariff treatments for goods imported into Canada. Under sections 30-32 of the Act goods that originate in a country listed in the List of Countires as a beneficiary of the Most Favoured NationTariff are entitled to the rates of customs duty set out with respect to those goods under the List of Tariff Provisions.

Rules of origin are used to determine if goods qualify for a particular tariff treatment. The Most Favoured Nation Tariff Rules of Origin Regulations establishes the rules which shall be used to determine when a good is considered to originate from a MFN country.
