Canada's crops and forests are protected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) ongoing efforts related to the regulation of plant supplements and fertilizers.
Eligibility Criteria
Both the domestic sale and import of fertilizers and supplements are governed under the terms of this CFIA program.
Summary
CFIA activities include:

administering the Canadian Fertilizer Quality Assurance Program (CFQAP);
-
registration of fertilizers, fertilizers/pesticides, and supplements;
-
review of product safety, efficacy, and labelling;
-
monitoring for active ingredients and contaminants in the marketplace;
-
monitoring releases of proposed new products for research purposes;
-
testing for contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides and pathogens such as salmonella; and
-
verifying that products registered under the Import for Export Program are handled in accordance with requirements.
