Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) are Crown lands designated for the conservation, protection and enhancement of significant wildlife habitats.

Summary

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Manitoba Regulation 171/2001 and its subsequent amendments defines the boundaries of WMAs. Manitoba Regulation 77/99 and its subsequent amendments identify restrictions on uses and activities in WMAs.

DESCRIPTION

WMAs are managed to maintain biodiversity and biological integrity and provide for a variety of wildlife-related forms of recreation. Primary activities include:

 

  • Hunting
  • Trapping
  • Eco-tourism
  • Cycling
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Wildlife viewing

Other uses are permitted where they will not compromise primary wildlife values or where they will enhance habitat for desired species.
