Act: Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, c. 33.
Regulation: Masked Name Regulations, SOR/94-261, as amended
A person who provides information to the Minister of the Environment under Part II; Toxic Substances of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999). The key application is to manufacturers and importers of chemicals, biochemicals, polymers, bipolymers and products of biotechnology who notify the Minister of new substances.
The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999) establishes that a substance may be identified by a masked name where the publication of the actual name of the substance would result in the release of confidential business information.
The Masked Name Regulations set out the manner in which the masked name is determined. The application for masked designation is made following a request for confidentiality.
