Successful community improvement projects receive between $5 000 and $25 000 for community improvements such as emergency services equipment, playgrounds, food banks, recreation centres and care homes.

Eligibility Criteria

For your project to be considered for funding, your organization must:

  • be a registered charity; or
  • be an agricultural society; or
  • be a municipality or partnered with a municipal government who agrees to receive the money contributed, control the expenditures and issue official tax receipts in the municipality’s name.

Farm Credit Canada prefers to partner with organizations that:

  • benefit more than one community;
  • encourage volunteerism;
  • offer recognition for FCC involvement.

Eligible Activities

Your project must:

  • enhance the quality of life for people who live in rural communities;
  • be a capital project (equipment, building funds, etc.);
  • be completed by December 2010;
  • be located in rural Canada;
  • benefit a community with a population less than 100 000 people;
  • allow FCC to put up a permanent sign.

FCC will not support projects or activities that:

  • take place outside of Canada;
  • have received support from the FCC AgriSpirit Fund in the past;
  • are being implemented to contribute to operating budgets or debt reduction campaigns;
  • are undertaken by private foundations or third parties raising funds for a charity, e.g. Lion's Club, Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, etc.;
  • are taking place in support of individual endeavors;
  • only provide benefit to members of a particular religion, political party or social organization;
  • benefit private schools;
  • are undertaken by organizations whose primary focus is advocating a particular religious, social, moral, political or economic point of view;
  • sell tickets for fundraising events;
  • are likely to have a significant adverse environmental effect.

Additional information:

  • Preference may be given to organizations that have a focus on agriculture.
  • FCC employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to complete the application for AgriSpirit funding.
  • Only online applications will be evaluated.
  • The completion of an environmental assessment may be required as part of the evaluation process.
  • Preference will be given to organizations that do not already receive funding from the United Way.
