Bankruptcy and Insolvency Records

The national bankruptcy and insolvency database provides basic estate information on all bankruptcies and proposals registered since 1978, receiverships registered since 1993 and information on all petitions. 

Summary

For a fee of $8.00 for each group of 10 matches, determine the insolvency status of an individual or a corporation. You may undertake insolvency searches on the Internet 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

• register on https://strategis.ic.gc.ca/cgi-bin/allsites/registration/mainScreen.cgi;
• you are ready to begin your searches by visiting the http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/bsf-osb.nsf/eng/Home Web site.

Setting up an account

• register on https://strategis.ic.gc.ca/cgi-bin/allsites/registration/mainScreen.cgi. If you forget your password, call the Help Desk at 1-800-328-6189;
• fax your letterhead, include the person's name who is responsible for accounts payable and a password of 6 to 8 letters to 613-941-9490, and you will be sent your client number;
• call the toll-free Client Help Desk at 1-866-941-2863, and the staff will establish a connection between your client account and your ID;
• begin searching by visiting the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada. Simply charge your searches to your Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy account. Bills are sent out monthly.
