This program is designed to work with employers to develop better communication in the workplace. It recognizes that people are the most valuable resource of business and that effective workplace communication is critical to business performance.

Eligibility Criteria

All businesses in Manitoba are eligible. Approved costs associated with the delivery of the project may be eligible for financial support, subject to negotiation.

Summary

DESCRIPTION

The English at Work program works with employers to develop better workplace communication through:

  • English language classes for employees, from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Support to supervisors and managers of second language speakers.
  • Language partner programs.
  • Adaptation of workplace materials and manuals into plain English.
  • Skill and safety training adapted for immigrant employees.

Greater workforce awareness of health and safety issues and practices

Services

Program funding: 100% in first year, 50% in continuing years

Assist employers in assessing specific language and communications needs
Develop a plan that addresses short- or long-term needs
Provide skilled and experienced instructor/consultants
Deliver training to employees, supervisors and managers
Recommend changes in workplace practices or adapt materials to improve comprehension/readability
Evaluate training and change.
