Environmental Enhancement Loans assist producers in modifying their current operations or management practices, to become more environmentally sustainable while maintaining a viable enterprise.

Environmental Enhancement Loans finance the producer’s share of related project costs and provide an advance on government contributions available from the Canada-Manitoba Farm Stewardship Program and the provincial Beneficial Management Practices Top-up Incentive Program.

Program coverage focuses on Beneficial Management Practices (BMP) projects such as improved manure storage, handling and treatment, relocation of livestock / horticulture facilities and other BMP’s that may involve substantial capital commitment.

Summary

Qualifying applicants are individuals (who are 18 years of age or over), joint farm units, partnerships, corporations or cooperatives. An applicant must be a Manitoba resident and a Canadian citizen or lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence.

LOAN MAXIMUM

Environmental Enhancement Loans up to $150,000 are available. The interest rate is set at MASC's prevailing rate.

REPAYMENT

Environmental Enhancement Loans have terms up to 15 years. Monthly, quarterly or semi-annual payments are available. There are no prepayment penalties.

FEATURES

MASC's regular eligibility criteria, including the net worth cap, have been waived for this loan program.

The program supports the Agriculture Policy Framework's (APF) Environmental Pillar, which encourages producers to voluntarily complete environmental farm plans to identify environmental risks and needs.

The program offers up to 100% project financing up front, acknowledging that the federal and provincial program incentives are not available until the project is completed and inspected.
