Market Driven Feature Film Development Financing Program

This program will assist eligible applicants with the development of viable motion picture concepts into screenplays for theatrical release.

Eligibility Criteria

Full length documentaries and movies for television are not eligible.

Summary

The four identified phases for investment purposes are:

Phase I - Concept to Fully Developed Treatment

Up to 50% of approved eligible costs, to a maximum of $7,500.00. Applicants must include a letter of interest or intent from a bona fide Distributor in order to be eligible for this phase. No other market trigger is essential for eligibility.

Phase II - Treatment to First Draft Screenplay

Up to 50% of approved eligible costs to a maximum of $12,000.00.

Projects must show market potential through a strong letter of interest from an acceptable Distributor, or evidence of other market funding from a third party source (such as Telefilm Canada, the Harold Greenberg Fund, etc), or both.

Phase III - Second Draft Screenplay

Up to 50% of approved eligible costs to a maximum of $12,000.00.

Projects must show market potential through a strong letter of interest from an acceptable Distributor, or evidence of other market funding from a third party source (such as Telefilm Canada, the Harold Greenberg Fund, etc), or both.

Phase IV - Final Draft Screenplay & Packaging

Up to 50% of approved eligible costs to a maximum of $18,000.00. NOTE: This amount will be reduced depending on amounts accessed in earlier phases of development so as not to exceed the overall project development cap of $35,000.00.

Applicants must show market potential through a letter of commitment from an acceptable Distributor.

Development investments are capped at a maximum of $35,000.00 for all four phases or 50% of approved eligible costs whichever is lesser.

MANITOBA FILM & MUSIC reserves the right in all phases to assess projects on creative merit and audience potential.
