The Manitoba Market Assessment of Research and Technology (MMART) program assists Manitoba small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to work with a consultant to conduct a professional market and/or technology assessment of a product, process or technology they are developing or planning to develop.

Eligibility Criteria

The MMART program is open to incorporated Manitoba companies with less than 500 employees that are clients of the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

Summary

A key, unique element of the MMART program is to provide Manitoba firms with expertise to help them define their needs and champion their competitive intelligence requirements. MMART will help create a knowledgeable and demanding customer for competitive intelligence - one that will accelerate the growth of Manitoba's competitive intelligence community.

The objective of a MMART project is to allow SMEs to assess the commercial potential of a technically innovative product/process, and use this information to both refine their R&D efforts and formulate a strategic commercialization path.

Sample MMART projects include:

  • evaluating the general market environment, potential and degree of segmentation;
  • evaluating the competitive environment and comparable technologies;
  • developing a commercialization action plan; and
  • developing a competitive intelligence strategy or capability to be used to monitor an industry sector.

How much funding is available?

Companies may be eligible for funding contribution of up to 50% of the consulting labour costs, to a maximum contribution of $15 000. The companies are expected to have in-house staff work closely with the consultant; however, staff costs are borne by the company.

How do I apply?

The first step is to contact an Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA) to discuss your technology commercialization plans and to assess how NRC-IRAP can best help you. ITAs deliver the National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program. For the name and phone number of the ITA nearest you, please contact NRC in Winnipeg at (204) 983-0092.
