The business community and potential users of technology.

Summary

The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) uses state-of-the-art operational systems to collect, produce, correct and analyze data from Earth observation and geodetic satellites or other sources. CCRS cooperates with resource management agencies and value-added industry to establish and demonstrate improved remote sensing information extraction techniques for a wide variety of Canadian applications.

The Centre is also responsible for the development and operation of the core services within the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure. A large collection of geospatial information is accessible at no cost to the users. In partnership with other federal agencies, the national scale base and thematic framework geospatial data bases are prepared and maintained. In addition, the Centre delivers and maintains the Atlas of Canada.

CCRS maintains the spatial reference system through innovative use of space geodetic techniques, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), especially the Global Positioning System (GPS).

CCRS is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the reception, recording and archive aspects of the RADARSAT program in Canada. The Centre also ensures that Canadians have access to a systematic and continuing record of the land surface over the past 30 years.

CCRS provides up-to-date geographic information on Canada's landmass and ensures the promotion of the geomatics technologies, together with its associate centres in surveying and in topographic information within Geomatics Canada, the national geomatics agency.
