The purpose of this initiative is to encourage consumers to buy energy-efficient furnaces, gas fireplaces, central air conditioners and heat pumps by informing them about the energy efficiency ratings of these products.
Buyers of this equipment, manufacturers of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment sold in Canada must ensure that their products meet the requirements of Canada's Energy Efficiency Regulations with respect to minimum energy efficiency standards, and third party verification. They should also ensure that the energy efficiency rating posted on an EnerGuide label is based on the product meeting the requirements of the Regulations.
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is working with the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) to deliver an industry-supported initiative, to encourage manufacturers to post EnerGuide ratings in their product brochures and Web sites and to improve knowledge amongst the HVAC trade on the importance of promoting and selling high efficiency equipment to consumers.
Manufacturers of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment sold in Canada place an EnerGuide rating at the back of brochures, showing the efficiency rating of the product and how it compares on a scale with the efficiency ratings of other products sold in Canada.
