FACTOR Loan Programs for Recording

FACTOR, the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings, is a non-profit* organization dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian independent recording industry.

Note: French language vocal music projects are referred to MUSICACTION.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. Further eligibility criteria will vary according to the program. 

Summary

Support is provided through various programs that all aid in the development of the industry. FACTOR funds assist Canadian recording artists and songwriters in having their material produced and marketed, and their videos created. FACTOR also supports domestic and international touring, as well as showcasing opportunities. In a nutshell, FACTOR's goal is to stimulate the development of the Canadian sound recording industry and support the regional, domestic and international presence of Canadian companies and artists. 

The FACTOR programs are: 

  • Collective Initiatives;
  • Demo/Songwriter Support;
  • Direct Board Approval: 
  • Levels I, II, and III;
  • Classical Program;
  • Urban and Eletronica Program;
  • Marketing and Promotion Program;
  • Video Grant;
  • Master Acquisition Component; 
  • Domestic and International Business Development Program;
  • Domestic and International Showcase Program;
  • Domestic and International Tour Program;
  • Emerging Artist Program (Production Component and Marketing and Promotion Component);
  • Juried Sound Recording Loan Program (FACTOR Loan and Independent Recording Loan);
  • Label Manager Program;
  • Marketing and Promotion for FACTOR-Funded Sound Recording;
  • Marketing and Promotion for Non-FACTOR-Funded Sound Recording;
  • Songwriter Workshop and Seminar Support Program;
  • Video Program.

*Note: "non-profit" also known as nonprofit organizations, non profit organizations, not-for-profit organizations, voluntary organizations and volunteer organizations.
