The Census of Population is conducted once every five years in all households across Canada. The Census of Population collects extensive demographic, social, cultural, and economic information on Canada's population. In addition, data are collected on dwelling, family and household characteristics. The Demography Division maintains records on population estimates and projections and demographic and demolinguistic characteristics.

Summary

Canadian Census

The census provides a statistical portrait of a country and its people. Most countries in the world carry out a census regularly. The census collects information on every man, woman and child living in Canada, to get a picture of the demographic, social and economic situation of the people living in various regions. The census is taken every five years, and the last census was held on May 16, 2006.

The first release of the 2006 Census will be in March 2007.
