All vessels.

Summary

The Canada Shipping Act, 2001 (CSA 2001) places numerous requirements on vessels, including:

  • registration and licensing;
  • equipment and construction;
  • certification and training; and
  • working conditions for seamen.

In addition, the Act authorizes the making of regulations in many areas.

The Vessel Operation Restriction Regulations were enacted to restrict the operation of vessels for safety and protection of the marine environment in Canadian waters. The Regulations include provisions for:

  • restrictions on boating and navigation;
  • signs restricting operation of vessels; and
  • the appointment and powers of enforcement officers.
